WHAT WE BUY AT TRADER JOE’S: KIDS EDITION

My family and I love Trader Joe’s and usually make a grocery haul there weekly. Today I’m sharing a few of our kid friendly favorites and a lot of items that my daughter uses on the daily. Due to the pandemic, we have been eating most meals at home for quite some time and have gotten into a good rhythm.

To make things easier, I categorized our favorites into fruits, vegetables, snacks, breakfast foods, and lunch & dinner ideas. Not everything has a picture, but all of our favorites are listed below. Let’s break it down:

FRUITS:

    • strawberries
    • blueberries
    • raspberries
    • bananas
    • cuties/ mini tangerines
    • red or green grapes
    • green apples
    • organic thompson seedless raisins

VEGETABLES:

  • organic cut and peeled carrots
  • frozen organic peas
  • frozen organic corn
  • broccoli (roasted with olive oil and salt)
  • mushrooms (roasted with olive oil and salt)
  • english cucumbers
  • organic cherry or grape tomatoes

SNACKS:

What kid doesn’t love their snacks?! My daughter is always on the hunt for new snacks and thanks to Tik Tok I’ve been able to find some good ones. Here are Elle’s favorites:

NACHO CHEESE TORTILLA CHIPS

These are like a healthier version of Doritos. They are made with organic corn and even taste way better in my opinion. They are actually pretty addictive so be careful! My daughter also loves the regular organic tortilla chips too and likes to add shredded organic cheese to make nachos. Lastly, these also come in mini packs for on-the-go snacking, which is always a plus when it comes to kids. Not a fan of Doritos? Trader Joe’s also makes their own version of Pringles too.

PRETZEL SLIMS & HONEY WHEAT PRETZELS

When it comes to pretzels, these are my daughter’s favorite. The pretzel slims come in a few flavors, but she prefers original. She also loves the honey wheat pretzels which are little bit more on the healthier side.

ORGANIC MINI CHEESE SANDWICH CRACKERS

My daughter is obsessed with these and so is my husband. They also come in a peanut butter version, but she is all about the cheese. The perfect little snack sandwich and they are organic too!

CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZELS

These are perfect for a sweet treat. If you aren’t a fan of feeding your child chocolate, Trader Joe’s makes a yogurt covered pretzel that in my opinion is just as good. These are a great dessert option for school or picnic lunches too. Just 2-3 of them go a long way.

ROASTED SEAWEED SNACKS

These are kind of an acquired taste, but if your kid loves sushi, then they will like these. I sometimes like to make “ugly sushi” for dinner by wrapping white rice and avocado in these. You can also add shrimp or crab if your kid is into that too. So delish!

HOLD THE CONE MINI ICE CREAM CONE

My daughter is obsessed with these! They are the perfect kid size treat and now come in a bunch of different flavors. Her all time favorite is vanilla, but I’ve also seen chocolate, chocolate chip, and even mint chocolate chip. Parents will like this one too. So good!

BREAKFAST FOODS:

  • frozen organic silver dollar pancakes
  • organic eggs

FROZEN MULTIGRAIN TOASTER WAFFLES

These are a breakfast staple in our house. They are easy to make and I sometimes even add some colocate chips or sliced bananas to add a twist. You must get these! Your freezer will thank me.

CINNAMON ROLL BREAD

My daughter is obsessed with this cinnamon roll bread. It is gooey and delicious, and doesn’t even need butter on it. She eats it just toasted plain. On weekends I sometimes use it to make french toast. Parents will like this one too!

ORANGE PEACH MANGO JUICE

My daughter likes to drink this in the morning with her breakfast. It is a bit on on the sweeter side, so I like to dilute it with water (about 1/3 water and 2/3 juice). She is only 3 years old and doesn’t even notice. We mainly drink water in our house except my daughter loves this and apple juice (which I also dilute with water).

LUNCH & DINNER FOODS:

ORGANIC SHREDDED 3 CHEESE BLEND

We probably go through at least 2 bags of this weekly. My daughter LOVES quesadillas which is the easiest lunch ever. She also likes to use this cheese melted on tortilla chips aka nachos, which is another easy lunch idea. Just add some cut up avocado and some sort of fruit and you have the perfect lunch.

SPINACH TORTELLINI

My daughter loves these. We have tried a few of the ravioli and tortellini options at Trader Joe’s, but this one is her favorite. It takes about 3-4 minutes to make, so it’s a great dinner option to always have on hand (especially when I make something more adult like that she won’t like for dinner). You just heat it up and add a touch of butter and shredded parmesan cheese. SO easy!

FROZEN SWEET POTATO FRITES

My whole family actually loves these because they are a bit of a healthier version of french fries. We usually make these when we are having cheeseburger night. So easy and delicious.

SPINACH & KALE GREEK YOGURT DIP

My daughter loves dips and the whole process of dipping things. This is her favorite dip at the moment and I love the fact that it is on the healthier side and made with spinach, kale, and greek yogurt. I usually serve this for lunch with cut up veggies (like carrots and cucumbers) or even with tortilla chips or toasted pita.

ORGANIC BEANS

These make for a super easy side dish. My daughter loves beans, perhaps because they are already in bite size pieces.  I usually drain and heat up the black beans with a touch of salt. She loves the garbanzo beans cold and we keep them in the refrigerator and use them for salads, but she likes them plain.

CHICKEN GYOZA POTSTICKERS

These are kind of like a healthier alternative to the fried chicken finger. My daughter loves these with white rice and it is a super easy go-to dinner that takes about 10 minutes to make. I am always a fan of easy + quick dinners and Trader Joe’s always has so many options. I always make these in a pan so that they are a bit crispy. So good!

So there you have it, a few of our kid friendly Trader Joe’s favorites, but honestly I love them all too! If you like this kind of post, let me know and I can share more grocery store favorites and recipes.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK! XO
