In an era where you’re surrounded by blowout bars and extreme dye jobs, hair damage is quite prevalent. Before you start feeling hopeless about the situation, I’m here to help! It’s time to take action to make your hair healthy again. There are a few tweaks you can make to your weekly routine that can help get your hair back on track in no time.
First things first. We need to start with the products your using. It’s important to always try to look and live your best and that’s why you should choose haircare that helps you do just that. These days I’m using Biotera Natural Origin because it’s made with integrity. I’m teaming up with them today to share 6 easy ways you can make your hair healthier:
1. WASH YOUR HAIR LESS OFTEN
Every time you wash your hair, the natural oils that protect it from getting dry and brittle get stripped away. If you do it too often, then your hair will become frizzy and damaged. Try to cut back on the amount of days you wash your hair per week so it has time to recover.
Personally, I try to wash mine every 2-3 days. It can get a bit greasy at first, but you need to train your hair and it will become used to this new routine in no time. After just a week or so you should notice a positive change in the texture of your hair and it might even look shinier too.
2. LET IT AIR DRY WHENEVER POSSIBLE
As you might know, using a hair dryer can totally wreck havoc on your hair, especially if it’s already damaged. Try to put down the hair dryer and let your hair air dry naturally. I know this might be hard for some. I personally have naturally ugly wavy hair that looks horrible when air dried, but I still try to do this at least once a week or once every other week to give it a break.
Also avoiding heat styling tools like curling irons and straightening irons are helpful as well. If you do feel the need to in fact use a hair dryer, try to use it on the lowest or coolest setting that works for your specific hair type.
3. USE A COMB AND NOT A BRUSH
You might have heard this one before, but brushes with plastic bristles can drag through your hair, violently pulling out the tangles and causing rips and breaks to occur. A wide-tooth comb is way better to use for gently detangling hair without causing damage. Start by working through the tips of your hair, then moving up a few inches at a time until your hair is detangled from tips to roots.
4. USE ALL-NATURAL PRODUCTS ONLY
Typical ingredients in most commercial shampoo, conditioner, and styling products are damaging to hair. Isn’t that crazy!? Make sure to check the labels of your products and avoid those with sulfates, silicones, parabens, and dyes.
Using Biotera Natural Origin has really helped restore my hair, and most importantly made it healthier. I love the smell of their products as well as the great value for the price. With up to 97% naturally derived ingredients, the salon professional line is free from sulfates, silicones, parabens and dyes. Not only that, but it features biodegradable formulas and 100% recyclable packaging, so you can care for your hair and the earth at the same time.
The Natural Origin collection features seven color-safe products that gently restore beauty and radiance. My personal favorite is NURTURE which consists of a moisturizing shampoo, conditioner, and masque made for dry hair. It’s enriched with nourishing coconut oil and honey, making it especially perfect for winter time. You can find Biotera Natural Origin at Sally Beauty or shop them online here.
5. STAY HYDRATED
Dehydration is another common culprit when it comes to dry, damaged hair. Make sure to drink plenty of water during the day and when you’re feeling thirsty, make sure to reach for pure water instead of coffee or soda, which can act as a diuretic and actually dehydrate you. I always try carrying a water bottle along with me during the day so I’m always drinking and never without water.
6. TRIM YOUR HAIR OFTEN
Getting regular trims will freshen up your hair and let you start replacing your damaged locks with healthy new ones. It’s suggested people should get trims every 6-8 weeks, but if that’s not realistic for you then try for every 2.5-3 months. Even if you just get half of an inch trimmed off, it will freshen things up and get rid of all those split ends.

So there you have it. 6 easy ways to get your hair healthier. Hope this post was helpful and just remember: by starting a new haircare routine and taking care of yourself inside and out, you can help get your hair back to it’s naturally gorgeous self in no time!
