Gallery walls are the easiest way to update your interiors and elevate a boring white wall. Back in September I partnered with Poster Store to create a gallery wall for my daughter’s bedroom that turned out amazing. You can see for yourself in this post.
Today I am working with Poster Store again to create a gallery wall for my bedroom. I started a small one back when the pandemic started, but I decided it needed some updating. Now that I am becoming more familiar with the process, I thought I would share 3 foolproof tips for hanging the perfect gallery wall. It’s easier than it looks. I promise!
At Poster Store you can find posters and frames that are both beautiful and affordable. They also give you all the inspiration you need for designing your own gallery wall. They have a large poster selection of different themes and categories for all tastes and always release a new poster collection every Tuesday. Their unique prints help you create your own gallery wall tailor-made for your home. Lastly, all their posters are printed on sustainably produced high-quality paper.

As far as the process, I tried to make it as simple as possible. Here’s what I did:
1. LAY IT ALL OUT WITH CRAFT PAPER
Before hanging everything up on your wall, you need to lay it all out so you can get a better sense of which print should go where. I suggest buying some craft paper. Trace out each frame you want to use onto the paper and trim it to the exact size. You can then tape your craft paper cutouts to the wall with painter’s tape and play around easily with all the different sizes. Once you like what you see, you can start hanging everything up.
2. START WITH YOUR LARGEST PICTURE FIRST
A good rule of thumb is to always start with your biggest piece first. You want to add it towards the center of the entire space, but a bit off centered. Then you can work your way out. As you continue placing your pieces on the wall, going from largest to smallest is typically a good piece of advice to follow. The larger pieces will serve as a guide for your other smaller pieces of art. Remember that every gallery wall needs at least one piece that feels commanding enough for the eyes to immediately gravitate towards.
3. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS EVEN
Something you want to make sure to pay attention to are the gaps between each piece. It’s important to make them relatively even and at least 3 inches apart so that the gallery wall doesn’t look too crammed. Also make sure that there aren’t any pieces too far from all the other because it might look strange and a bit out of place.
When it comes time to hanging everything up, I personally prefer to use these command strips over nails in the wall. It helps create that evenly spaced out look you are going for, and they are easy to adjust if you make a hanging mistake. I’m obsessed with them and use them all around my house to hang lighter weight paintings just so I have an easy option to rearrange and replace if I want to. They’re really the best!
Another thing to note is that all of Poster Store’s frames are made with a clear plexiglass material instead of glass, so they are a lot lighter than you would think.
HERE ARE A FEW MORE DETAILS ABOUT THIS PROJECT…
THE PRINTS WE CHOSE:
I wanted to focus on a mix of abstract as well as sentimental pieces. I chose a lot of neutral colors as well as some pinks. The pictures of places that I chose, are ones that my husband and I have visited before. I also chose a few quotes. Here are links to everything I chose below as well as exact sizing:
1. LAS VEGAS SIGN POSTER 8.3″ X 11.8″
2. AMALFI COAST POSTER 8.3″ X 11.8″
3. BRUSH STROKES POSTER 11.8″ X 15.7″
4. PINK FLAMINGO POSTER 8.3″ X 11.8″
5. DO MORE OF WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY 5.1″ X 7.1″
6. PRADA MARFA POSTER 15.7″ X 19.7″
7. BOLD SHAPES POSTER 11.8″ X 15.7″
8. MAP OF PARIS POSTER 11.8″ X 15.7″
9. JOHN LENNON HAPPY QUOTE 5.1″ X 7.1″
10. CALIFORNIA SURF VAN POSTER 8.3″ X 11.8″
11. PINK PAY PHONE POSTER 8.3″ X 11.8″
12. ABSTRACT CURVES POSTER 11.8″ X 15.7″
Besides prints from Poster Store, I mixed in a few original pieces of artwork done by either myself or my 4 year old daughter. I love the elevated texture added with the unframed pieces. When creating a gallery wall, it’s always fun to mix and match mediums.
THE FRAMES WE CHOSE:
What I love about the Poster Store is that it’s a one stop shop. You can buy both your prints and frames all in one place. They have a 10 different styles to choose from (depending on what color and material you want) as well as a wide range of varying sizes. For this project, I wanted the frames to all be consistent in color for a clean look so I went with these black wooden frames. I love how it turned out and am so happy with our decision.
