Today I am focusing on some unique holiday gift ideas. Ones that can be perfect for those hard to shop for people or for the ones that already have everything. These are more about experiences (which is obviously harder to do these days due to COVID) because experiences are always more memorable and special.
Some other unique gift idea go-tos include monthly subscription boxes because there are so many amazing ones out there and it’s the perfect present that spreads joy throughout the entire year. I also added lots of food ideas because everyone needs to eatt and we are all spending a lot more time at home.
This post was probably the most requested when it comes to gift guides. I did a wide range of pricing because everyone has a different budget to work with. I also broke it down into GIFT IDEAS FOR ADULTS as well as GIFT IDEAS FOR KIDS because there is honestly so much out there!
Let’s get started…
1. COOKING CLASS
A lot of places have gone online due to COVID and it might not be as fun, but for sure a great out of the box idea. I personally always find cooking classes to be so much fun! Pre-COVID I personally love the ones offered at Sur La Table (they have BYOB) and The Chopping Block. This is something you can give now and do later once things get better OR do online!
This is a great one for anyone who loves to cook! They feature high quality 100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef, heritage-breed pork, free- range organic chicken, and wild Alaskan salmon. They have a wide range of gift boxes and they are currently offering FREE SHIPPING. Check out their options here.
3. SHOPPING SPREE
This is perfect for your significant other or sibling OR someone who you think needs some new outfits. I also love the idea of a shopping spree with Trunk Club. They make the experience totally relaxed and have a great selection of styles. We did this one year and my husband had so much fun and got some great pieces. If you don’t have Trunk Club in your area, you could always choose the person’s favorite store and make a date out of it.
This one is perfect for all the wine lovers out there. Think your mom, grandmother, mother in law, or even a great girlfriend or sister. A Winestyr subscription includes four shipments of wine delivered right to your door. Also if you live in Chicago, you can get access to their beautiful tasting space in Chicago.
This is something you might want to give now and use later once things get less COVID-y, but a staycation is ALWAYS a good idea. If you live in Chicago, there are so many fabulous hotels to choose from. Some of my favorites include: The Peninsula Chicago (where we got married!), Waldorf Astoria Chicago, The Langham, The Viceroy, and LondonHouse Chicago.
6. FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT
This is a great idea for a grandparent and something we just did for my mother-in-law’s birthday. We hired a photographer and turned all the amazing photos into a Shutterfly book as well as a gallery wall for their living room. This is a great gift that you can give now and then use once the weather gets warmer. Also if you need a photographer, I highly recommend Ali Stone or Hannah Schweiss.
This might take a bit of prep time, but a great one for grandparents or significant others. Shutter fly is always my go-to when it comes to anything involving photos. They have so many different templates to choose from and can even do the designing for you. Who doesn’t love something with photos!?
Honestly anything from Shutterfly is always a fan favorite. They make it super easy to create calendars, photo books, as well as lots of other personalized essentials. This website is a great go-to when you have a family member that is tough to shop for. Parents and grandparents will LOVE anything you make them from this site.
8. BABYSITTING SERVICES
Another great gift idea is offering up yourself to babysit or take the kid or kids out on a fun day trip adventure. This is especially cute for grandparents or aunts and uncles. Switching up the daily routine can be super fun and unexpected. I realize every family is doing social distancing differently this year, but if it works for your family, go for it!
If you follow me on Instagram Stories, then you know I am a HUGE fan of FoxTrot. They have amazing curated gift boxes for the holidays that are themed and so much fun! They also have the most beautiful gift wrapping and they are able to ship statewide. Check out all their curated boxes here.
This is perfect for all those foodies out there and especially ones that love Chicago classics like Lou Malnati’s pizza, Italian beef, gourmet popcorn, and honestly the list goes on… Taste of Chicago is able to ship these favorites nationwide. overs! We have ordered Lou Malnati’s pizzas a few times to my husband’s sister who lives in Portland. So many fun options to choose from!
Since we are all spending a lot more time at home this year, why not give a meal delivery kit? It’s perfect for those who either love to cook or want to learn how to cook. My personal favorite these days is Every Plate, because it is the most affordable and you can even pick out your own menu. Use my code GOLDCOASTGIRL3 to get 3 weeks of meals for just $2.99 each. I’ve honestly never had a meal I didn’t like from them. There are also other ones out there including Hello Fresh and Blue Apron. Such a COVID-friendly idea because these days everyone is eating at home.

Whether you want to try out their smoothies, harvest bowls, soups, flatbreads, or even ice cream, there is something for everyone!
When it comes to ice cream, Hudsonville is my favorite! They are now able to ship nationwide and it’s the perfect treat for someone sweet! They have a wide variety of gift ideas available and I promise this one will brighten anyone’s day! They even have a dairy free collection as well as their extra indulgent ice cream collection and they are currently offering FREE SHIPPING!

16. SAGO MINI BOXES
This is another subscription box, but a bit different. I first shared these on Instagram because Elle is obsessed! Her aunt gifted them to her and I thought it was such a fun idea so I had to share. Each box celebrates the power of play with creative activities and collectibles that your kids can play with over and over again. Each month has a new theme and even the box that it comes in is part of the fun.
17. POTTERY BOX
If your child is a fan of art then this is the box for you! We did one over the summer and my daughter loved it. It’s a pottery painting subscription box. You can pick and choose between different themes like safari, under the sea, blank and blank. Each box includes 4 pieces of pottery, non-toxic paint, paintbrushes, themed button, paint palettes, tablecloth, coloring pages, and an apron. It’s such a great indoor activity to do during winter too! So fun!
18. PERSONALIZED ITEMS
I absolutely love when things are monogrammed or personalized for my child. There is a great website called Stuck On You that has the cutest stuff! They also have a bunch of holiday themed items like books, Santa sacks, stockings, puzzles, ornaments, and more.
Wonderbly offers personalized books for all ages! This is ALWAYS a great gift idea because books make amazing presents and the fact that it’s personalized makes it even better. I’ve used this website before to send books as well as been given books as presents. Such a fun idea!
