OUR NEW KITCHEN

We recently had to redo our kitchen due to a flood we had back in October, and today I’m sharing all the details. When it came to the design, we wanted something simple and modern. I absolutely LOVE how it all turned out. As we all know, a new kitchen cost can be pricey, but we tried hard to stick with a budget and had an amazing contractor.

I don’t have any before pictures really, but you can get a glimpse in this post and this post. We had a galley kitchen that was small and had absolutely NO counter space or cabinet storage. It was the worst.

We knew we wanted a more open concept this tie around so we knocked down a wall that divided the kitchen from the dining room. We also moved the refrigerator closer towards the window and created a HUGE counter. We are basically done and just need some stools if you have any ideas.

We worked with an amazing contractor and used Home Depot for the cabinet design. If you live in Chicago, I highly recommend using Wendell at their North Avenue store. He was great! We are fans of the contemporary look so we went with flat panel cabinets (as opposed to the ever so popular shaker style). We also LOVE the high gloss finish for that ultra modern look. Everyone warned us against them saying they scratch, but so far so good. No scratches at all and very easy to maintain.

For the cabinet hardware and sink faucet we turned to Studio 41. They have amazing products, a helpful staff, and great pricing. We used them before when designing our bathrooms. If you live in Chicago, you must check out their showrooms. They have a few around the city. We went to the one in River North.

I’m absolutely obsessed with our pendant lights. We have three of them across the main counter and I feel like you can’t really get a sense of what they look light unless it is nighttime. They are super cool and give off a bubbles in water kind of vibe. They are currently on sale and I highly recommend.

Lastly, our microwave is pretty cool. It’s more of a drawer that opens up and slides out. We decided to put it between cabinets under the countertop. Hopefully you can see what I mean in the pictures.
