ELLE’S NEW PLAY AREA REVEAL

I always like sharing elements of my home with you guys and today’s post is an extra special one. When it comes to my style of furniture and design, I love a modern look. I like pieces that are sleek, timeless, and fit into our contemporary lifestyle.

Like all one year olds, Elle loves to play and we wanted to have a designated spot in our main living area just for her. We have a space between our living room and dining room area that we thought would be the perfect place for her play area. Originally it looked like this and we had a gate up to keep her contained and safe. Now that Elle is learning to walk and exploring her surrounds, we thought we would upgrade the space so it blends into the style of the rest of our home.

I spent some time looking online and instantly fell in love with many of the pieces from Room & Board. We are already huge fans of the brand and currently have a few other pieces in our home including some furniture in our bedroom seen in this post as well as these dining room chairs that you can see styled in this post. We also have this dresser of theirs in Elle’s bedroom seen in this post.

With the help of Room & Board, I knew that I could design a new space for Elle that would easily blend into the rest of our home. After getting a general idea of what pieces I thought I wanted on their website, I decided to go into their downtown Chicago store to see some of the styles in person. I met with a design associate who was extremely helpful in assisting me with some final decisions. They really helped me with building out the vision I had and make it come to life.

I’m a huge fan of neutral colors and chose pieces that would easily mix in with the rest of our home. I also got a bit of help from you guys with an Instagram story poll for the rug {thanks to everyone who voted!}. I think choosing a rug might have been the hardest decision to make so I needed all the help I could get.

I am absolutely OBSESSED with how everything turned out and Elle loves her new play area! It has already become our new favorite space in our condo and we love spending time there as a family.

What I l especially love so much about Room & Board furniture is that their pieces are made from high quality materials that will hold up for years. I know that all the styles we chose for Elle’s play area can last for a lifetime.

Another thing I love is that there are so many items that are customizable and that are available in varying colors, sizes, and materials. Lastly, I appreciate that Room & Board’s modern furniture has a commitment to American craftsmanship and sustainable practices.

Below find some details about each item I picked out as well as a few photos of the finished play area:

SLIM CUBBY BENCH

Since this area was going to be behind our couch, I knew I wanted some sort of low level storage system for Elle’s toys. It needed to be durable and sturdy. I went with this bench because I loved the fact that it was made of steel and had cubbies to organize all of her toys. It also comes in varying sizes as well as a bunch of different color options found here. It feels well built and I love the fact that it helps contain the clutter with its sleek, modern design.

KORI BRAIDED STORAGE BINS

For Elle’s toy storage we wanted something that would combine well with the existing color scheme. These Kori Braided Storage Bins were recommended and worked out perfectly. I love the color we chose and they have really helped us organize all of Elle’s toys. Now the space looks decluttered and Elle has easy access to all of her books, stuffed animals, puzzles, blocks, and cars. The baskets come in a few different colors as well as sizes. We have four of the smallest sized ones in the charcoal color.

SEQUENCE RUG

Room & Board has so many cute styles, this was probably the hardest piece to pick out. With the help of our design associate and you guys who voted in my Instagram story poll, I was able to narrow my choices down and went with this sequence rug in the ivory/grey color. I knew we wanted a fun pattern that was also durable. We have dark floors so we gravitated towards colors that would pop against the chocolate brown wood.

I love the modern design and the fact that this rug doesn’t shed. It comes in three different color choices as well as varying sizes. We got ours in a 5 X 8 inch size that fits perfectly with our space. We also got this rug pad so it will stay in place.

DIGBY PLAY TABLE

I thought Elle needed a kid-size table and chairs where she could color, work on puzzles, eat snacks, and even do homework when she gets a bit older. I love the fact that the surface is extremely durable and made of powder-coated steel, making it wipeable and easy to clean. The table comes in a bunch of different colors, but we went with grey to match the rug and other pieces in the area.

PERCH CHAIRS

I thought the area could benefit from a little pop of color and thats where these adorable bright orange chairs came in. I especially love how vibrant they look against the dark grey table and find the color combo to mesh perfectly.

Now onto some photos of Elle’s new play space:

I want to thank Room & Board and their friendly team for helping our vision come to life. Furniture shopping can be stressful, and they made this entire process easy and seamless. Elle is already having so much fun playing in her new space and loves it as much as we do!

What do you guys think of Elle’s new play area?! I would love to hear!

I love the play area. Looks like Elle is really enjoying the little space. We have the same Melissa & Doug farm puzzle. My Elizabeth would love to play in that space. You did a great job.
