Having a baby is life changing. Everyone says how hard it is going to be in the beginning, but you really don’t know or understand until you go through it yourself. I never went into too much detail on my birth story, but today I’m going to share all about it as well as my Well Yes!® moment.

So let’s start at the beginning. Basically my water broke in the middle of the night two weeks before my baby’s due date and I didn’t even have a hospital bag packed yet {yikes!}. We went to the hospital around 3AM and my sweet baby girl was born around 11AM. It was a quick delivery and even though I got the epidural, I still felt the pain {just so ya know…}.

We spent two days at the hospital and then it was time to go home as a family of three. I remember coming home with Elle and feeling so unprepared. You read the books and talk to your friends who already have babies, but there are just so many things you don’t know. I never even changed a diaper before having a baby and the nurses at the hospital were somewhat helpful, but now we knew we were on our own.

I really thought I would be going past my due date {like a lot of first born babies}, so I felt so unorganized. The first free weeks were kind of a blur, but I do remember them being SO HARD. No one really talks to much about it, but people really should.

There was a combination of not knowing what I was doing as well as lack of sleep and high emotions from all the hormones. I would tell any new mom that those first few weeks and even months can be tough, but it gets way easier as time goes on.

For me, feeding and burping were quite challenging to be honest. I struggled with breastfeeding and eventually switched over to formula because my daughter was only 5 pounds when she was born and I wanted to make sure she was getting enough nutrients and gaining weight. We also came across a dairy allergy early on which was another stressor, but with the help of our pediatrician we were able to find a hypoallergenic formula that worked.

After about 3 months we got into the natural groove of things and I was able to finally take time for myself. I finally cut myself some slack and said YES to taking better care of myself not only physically, but also emotionally. I started working out again when I could find the time and I also created achievable goals for myself similar to these . Making simple changes helped me achieve a greater balance in life and this was my Well Yes!® Moment. After I was able to take better care of myself, I was then also better at being a mom and wife.

Something else I decided to do for myself included making healthier choices when it comes to food. With the help of Well Yes!® , I was able to have quick and easy heathy meals, which is especially helpful when you are taking care of a newborn.
