5-tips-on-staying-hydratedI don’t know about you, but I am super excited that summer is finally here!! Some of my favorite summertime activities include taking long walks along the beach, eating outside, and going to the pool with friends. The heat can be strong so it’s important to stay safe. Today I am sharing 5 tips on how to stay hydrated all summer long.

Let’s start with a few basics. Did you know that most Americans are chronically dehydrated and most of us don’t even know it!? Sometimes our bodies try to tell us with warning signs such as headaches, dry hair, and early wrinkles, but we don’t always get the message. Luckily, CVS Health and The Coca-Cola Company have teamed up to help customers satisfy their body’s thirst for wellness with “Life Quenching”. What is this you ask? It’s a movement to encourage and remind people to stay hydrated {especially during the summertime!}.

Here are some tips to keep in mind while you are having fun in the sun this summer…

Water is essential for maintaining blood circulation throughout your body. It helps carry heat away from your internal organs before serious damage occurs. It is suggested you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, but why not up it during the summertime? I’m also a huge fan of flavored water and some of my favorite brands include: vitaminwater and smartwater.

Drinking liquids is important, but so is what you eat. Make sure to eat at least 5 cups of fruits and vegetables per day for optimum health, as they all contain various levels of water as well as an important nutrient: potassium. This will also help up your fluid intake. Some of my favorite veggies & fruits to try include: watermelon, celery, cucumbers, and strawberries.

If you are outside exercising in the heat, it is important to supplement water with sports drinks {such as Powerade}. These have electrolytes and protein in them which helps with hydration. Remember to drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after your exercise session. These can help bring your body back to balance and they taste good too!

I know it’s hard, but try to stay away from those salty snacks. Chips, crackers, and baked goods all have minimal water content and LOTS of sodium. These will dehydrate you and cause a negative effect on your hydration.

Tea has many great benefits and I’m personally a fan of iced tea {love the brand Honest Tea}. Try making it a habit to drink tea every single night {hot or cold} and this will help you add an extra cup of fluid to your tally every single day. On top of that, this relaxing ritual is a wonderful way to de-stress at the end of a long day.

So as you can see what you drink and eat during the summer can have a huge impact on your health and hydration. Luckily, you can find many of these products at CVS because it’s a great destination to get any last minute or on the go hydration finds. They have so many store locations that you can always find what you need. Also, they currently have a great deal going on: Spend $5, get $2 in ExtraBucks in-store with your CVS ExtraCare Rewards Card. Make sure you stop by to check it out!

How do you stay hydrated during the summertime? I would love to hear!
