how to organize your handbag_Page_3

One thing you should know about me is that I always try to stay as organized as possible. I find that when things are more organized, then your day runs much smoother. When it comes to my purse, I like to follow the same guidelines. Do you ever feel like you are lugging around a heavy handbag of junk and can’t find anything you want in it? Well, today I’ve teamed up with Wrigley Extra Gum and their Give Extra, Get Extra Campaign to share some tips on how to organize your handbag.

STEP 1 // CHOOSE A HANDBAG
Let’s first talk about the handbag itself. Personally, I feel like the smaller the better when it comes to handbag. I always try to choose ones that are light in weight {no excess or unnecessary hardware} and has lots of inner pockets for storage. Also, if you carry a smaller purse then you are going to have to carry less in it.

STEP 2 // GATHER ONLY YOUR ESSENTIALS
Once you find a handbag to your liking, stock it with only items you need. Separate all that heavy junk that is unnecessary. For me the essentials include: A small wallet {that includes my ID, credit card, any other necessary cards, business cards, some cash}, cell phone, chapstick/lip gloss, keys, sunglasses, and gum of course 😉

STEP 3 // USE THOSE POCKETS
I tend to use ALL the pockets provided in my purse. I like to put my wallet in one, my phone in the other, and lastly my keys if there is a third option. I think having all your items in its own place makes it easy to get into your bag and grab what you need quickly.

STEP 4 // CONTAINERIZE
Just like the pockets, containers are key. By placing items in separate bags or cases within your handbag helps keep things a lot more orderly. For example, I like to keep all my makeup items {lip gloss, chapstick, hair ties etc.} in one small pouch so it is easy to access when I need it.

STEP 5 // DON’T FORGET THE GUM
Who doesn’t want fresh breath at all times?! To me, gum is an essential and right now I’m on a Wrigley Extra Gum kick. They now have new Extra® 35-stick packs and since these new packages are larger, there is now more gum to go around. They feature durable, recycled packaging AND more gum. Two of my current favorite flavors include Extra® Gum Spearmint and Extra® Gum Polar Ice®. You can easily find them in the checkout line at Walgreens.

STEP 6 // CLEAN YOUR BAG OUT DAILY
It’s important to clean your handbag out daily. I always like to clean mine out at the end of the day. I take everything out and put it all back in its place. That way, I can start fresh the next day. Depending on where you are going, you might need different items each time.

How do you keep your own handbag organized? I would love to hear!

I am so with you on needing to be organized and especially my handbag! I’m frequently checking to see what unnecessary stuff I can take outta there…it gets so heavy when it starts becoming a catch-all. And also yes to keeping your sunnies in their case, I am obsessive about this!

I actually organize my main handbags and clean them out quite often. I always put the things I need in them and ensure they are always in there (feminine products, gum, etc). My little bag for touch ups goes into whatever bag I use that day. Then just toss keys and the rest.
