These winter months can be tough on your skin. There are so many slight changes you can make in your daily routine to help prevent your skin from feeling dry.
One thing I know for sure is that I’m able to keep my lips hydrated thanks to Vaseline and their new lip therapy tins. These tins are clinically proven to help heal dry lips and provide long-lasting moisture.
Today I’ve teamed up with Vaseline to share 10 winter skincare tips you should follow to help keep your skin and yourself hydrated this chilly season:
1. PROTECT YOURSELF //
During these colder months you should make sure you are wearing gloves + scarves to protect your skin for the cold winds, rain, and snow. There are so many cute options currently on the market there really is no reason why you can’t look stylish while protecting your skin 😉
2. WASH IN LUKEWARM WATER //
Even though hot showers + baths feel good during the winter months, it’s important to stay away! When you can, choose to wash your hands or face in lukewarm water instead. This will help avoid stripping natural oils away from your skin.
*GCG TIP: A lukewarm bath with oatmeal or baking soda can help relieve dry itchy skin.
3. HUMIDIFY YOURSELF //
It’s a known fact that heating systems dry out the air so why not consider installing some sort of humidifier in your home {especially in your bedroom where you sleep}. They help recirculate moisture back into the air and aides your skin from drying out.
4. DRINK LOTS OF WATER //
We tend to drink less water in winter because we turn to hot drinks {like hot chocolate, tea, + fun seasonal beverages} instead. Your skin needs hydration inside and out so instead make sure you are drinking lots of water. The recommended average is 8-10 glasses a day.
*GCG TIP: Why not add some fresh fruit to your h20 for a refreshing twist!
5. EXFOLIATE //
Exfoliating is ALWAYS important, but especially during the wintertime. It is a great way to get rid of dead skin cells and also helps to keep the skin smooth and even. Make sure you exfoliate gently, using the right products and techniques because certain facial scrubs can be harsh on the skin.
6. STAY AWAY FROM HEATED AREAS //
When it’s cold outside you will be tempted to sit near the fireplace or heater for a few extra minutes, but unfortunately this is not a good option for the health of your skin. Try to avoid extremely heated areas {especially for long periods of time} because it will take away moisture from the body and leave you with rough, flakey, cracked skin instead.
7.USE SUNSCREEN //
Sun damage is a huge cause behind dry skin. You can help prevent this by wearing sunscreen {with a broad-spectrum of SPF 30 or higher} all year round. Not only will sunscreen protect you from the the sun during the winter, but it will also protect the sensitive skin on your face from damaging sun rays that can cause burns, sun spots, and even wrinkles.
8. EAT WELL //
Say yes to those fruits and vegetables. A healthy balanced diet will help your skin by providing it with the vitamins and nutrients it needs to stay healthy + hydrated. Try to eat at least 2 portions of green, leafy vegetables and 2 portions of seasonal fruits daily.
*GCG TIP: Fruits and vegetables with high-water content such as watermelon, broccoli, and tomatoes can especially help combat dry skin.
9. LIMIT ALCOHOL INTAKE //
It is a known fact that alcohol dehydrates your body which in turn can cause your skin to dry out and become red. It also decreases the body’s ability to absorb water. Since the holiday season is over, try to limit your alcohol intake.
*GCG TIP: If you do decide to drink, have a glass of water in-between drinks to keep your self hydrated.
10. HYDRATE WITH VASELINE LIP THERAPY TINS //
Whether you’re prepping for a big night out with an ultra-glam beauty look or stashing a tin in your purse as your in-flight secret weapon, these are the latest beauty must-haves to keep your lips hydrated while on the go. They are clinically proven to help heal dry lips and provide long-lasting moisture. I can honestly say it is one of my new favorite beauty must-haves. There are so many wonderful hydration benefits of Vaseline Lip Tins and they can easily be picked up at Target.com for under $4!
*GCG TIP: My favorite flavor is the Rosy Lips because of the slight tint in color!
How do you all keep your skin hydrated during these winter months? I would love to hear!
