I’m always on the hunt to find the perfect products to use on my hair. I want something that is able to highlight my natural color and make my hair looking healthy, silky and smooth. I was super happy when I took a trip to my local Target and stumbled upon John Frieda’s Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Collection.

I have always been a huge fan of Target and love their convenience, great product selection, and various styles they offer to their customers. During this particular trip I chose the Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ Subtle Lightening Shampoo/Conditioner, as well as the Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ In-Shower Treatment.

I love how both the shampoo and conditioner gradually brighten for a natural sun-kissed look. It illuminates the glowing tones and visibly boosts the brightness of your brunette. The in-shower treatment lightens up to 1 shade instantly and is safe for natural, highlighted, and color-treated brunettes. It will only lighten your natural spectrum so don’t worry about your hair appearing bleached or orange {eeeks!}.

Since I’m a huge fan of the John Frieda’s Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Collection,  I try to incorporate it in my weekly hair routine. These products provide an easy way to refresh my style with the pricey and time consuming salon visit.

When it comes to styling my hair, most often I wear it down. When I do choose to wear it up, my favorite way is with a casual messy bun. It’s a great go-to for a greasy-hair-day fix or even the perfect party up-do. I also feel like it highlights John Frieda’s Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Collection. Today I am going to show you how to create a casual messy bun with 5 simple steps:

STEP ONE //
Create a high basic pony tail at the crown of your head and tie it with a thin elastic hair tie. Make sure the ponytail isn’t too tight for a more casual effect. Then pull out a few tiny wisps of hair around your face.

STEP TWO //
Hold your ponytail in a vertical position and backcomb it to add volume and body. You want to try to get it to double in size.
* GCG TIP: The amount of teasing all depends on the thickness of your hair. Since I have thicker hair, I don’t have to tease it too much. People with fine hair will have to backcomb it a bit more to get the volume they desire.

STEP THREE //
Loop the hair over to create a real knot so that the hair is near the base of the ponytail. It is okay if you only are able to pull a few strands all the way through.
* GCG TIP: Don’t worry If your hair isn’t long enough to create a knot. Instead, simply twist your hair around your elastic hair tie to create the bun shape you desire.

STEP FOUR //
Pull the knot into a messy shape of your liking. It is important to aim for a combination of both good width as well as good height.

STEP FIVE //
Add a few pins around the edges of the knot to keep it in place.
* GCG TIP: Add a mist of hairspray for extra hold.

Make sure to take a trip to your local Target and check out John Frieda’s Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Collection. They are currently holding an amazing promotion until 3/5. Love this! I will have to give this a try. This is perfect for when you are having a bad hair day, or you just want to wear your hair up off your neck and face. Thanks for sharing this detail step by step process with us.

Love that it lightened you subtly, but still looks gorgeous! I used to use this shampoo/conditioner back in the day, but it’s been a while! I am not sure which one I would use now, since I am part blonde, part brunette. Really love the bun that you did!

Oh I think I am gonna try them out! Love this hair style and I always want a messy bun like this but my hair is so short. But I think sometimes the hair style really makes you looks different!
